Fiat 500 to 3200 meters - Test Drive. The funniest thing, we admit, they were within sight of the skiers, while pointing toward the top hanging on the ski lift, it looked strange. They were certainly wondering what we ever did those cars on top of the Stelvio Pass and not on the road over the pass, but right there up in the clouds at the base of the glacier.
The occasion was to test the new Pirelli Winter Snowcontrol Series II, devoted to the tire heat supermini and compact cars. In addition to the 700 kilometers in all road conditions as possible, the icing on the cake was organized in 3200 meters runway with the cars transported on top with snowmobiles.
The Fiat 500, with the footwear, suitable, has performed remarkably well, it is also entertaining due to its low weight and short wheelbase, compared to other cars that we had available (Alfa Romeo Mito and Volkswagen Golf). The circuit was short but varied, with the first half on a slight uphill and the second downhill. Departure, he immediately went into the hairpin on the right, straight up with a slight chicane at the turning point with another hairpin right, placing on the finish straight with the simulation of obstacle avoidance through some cones placed ad hoc, then again inside the first bend and away again! It was hard to be critical for the 500 loader with Pirelli Snowcontrol Series II, at most, it was necessary to put hand brake to get it right in the hairpin turn and quickly, without running too slow and cool the game. About cool, we ran with an outside temperature of 15 degrees below zero, it means that few laps were enough to make it freeze. Despite the changing track conditions, we managed to turn more safely, relying on the traction and cornering grip of the tires. Not only that: in case of braking, we were able to appreciate the Snowcontrol ensure that braking distances reduced by 10% and 3% in the wet snow.
In short, enjoyable morning on board the black Fiat 500 on which we filmed. Is there any other winter tire to be tested?!?
